It’s dragon fruit season here in Southern California

Have you seen these beautiful fruits?  . I’ve seen them anywhere from $5.99 to $7.99 each! Crazy right?!? Especially since this is a very easy fruit to grow if you are in our Southern California climate. Here is a dragon fruit looks like:

The plant itself looks like a cactus and can be grown from just clippings off another plant. All of our plants have come from clippings. Here is what our plants look like:

But before those beautiful pink fruits develop, you get to watch the flowers bloom. What a beautiful sight! Here is the dragon fruit flower in all its glory:

So what does a dragon fruit taste like?  It’s a very mild sweet taste and has the consistency of eating a kiwi. I find them to be delicious.

There are many different varieties, but we mainly grow as a kind that is bright pink on the outside with a white meat and black seeds on the inside. The fruit is ready here in September and as we get so many at once they peel slice up and freeze. That way you can add them into smoothies or as a frozen treat all year long.

I recommend growing dragon fruit. It is said that they had many anti cancerous properties. a quick search on Google can give you all the nutrient facts about dragon fruit. Keeping this post short and sweet. I just wanted you to be aware of how easy they are to grow in our climate. Stick a few clippings in your soil and watch them bro and produce absolutely beautiful flowers and enjoy the fruit at the end and let the bee's enjoy that sweet nectar in the process:

It’s a win-win for a nice plant, low water, the bees like to pollinate them, and they are certainly delicious to eat. I might’ve been there and I do know that.

Mama
