Timers around the house for lighting

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

The holidays are upon us, which means Christmas lights will be going up. Putting lights on timers makes it an easy no-brainer for the lights to automatically come on in the evening and turn off automatically before bed. Trust me when I say, you will love this simple home life hack

In our home light timers are not just some thing that I use during the holidays. I use timers on the lamps around my home year around. So why do I do this? Light timers are great because we never come home in the evening to a dark house and I never have to wonder when going to bed if all the lights are out. I have lamps around the house in just certain locations that are on timers to give enough light for it to appear that someone is home, without needing every light on. Obviously things like canned lighting and chandelier fixtures are not on timers, but if a lamp in the living room, kitchen, dining room, etc. are on a simple an inexpensive timer, it just makes life easier. Just another thing I don't need to do or think about

.

Here is what a timer looks like :

The ones that I buy can be bought with this link below:

The holidays are a popular time for people to put their Christmas lights on timers, therefore, it’s a great time to buy them as they are often on sale. Here is another type that I do also use. They are plugs that are attached to remote controls. These are for the lights around the house but I don’t necessarily want on a timer, but I don’t want to have to walk around and turn them on either. I simply hit a button. These are also frequently on sale during the holidays, but yes we do use them year around.

Here's the link to these outlets that you plug in that have remotes:

The timers I talked about above are the ones that I have on certain lamps. I also have other lamps and up lighting at home that are controlled by smart timers. I also use smart times for my Christmas Tree and banister lighting. These timers are great as they integrate into your homes google and all you have to do is say “hey Google turn on staircase lighting“ or whatever you have them sent to. These are great, however, being that I am not a tech person they do take a bit more figuring out then a simple plug in the wall and hit two buttons.

Here's those link to the Alexa Smart Plugs. You can get (4) for $26 bucks:

Which ever option you decide to go with, I would certainly suggest that you put lights on timers for year around use. It’s super annoying to come home to a scary black house, or be laying in bed and have to walk back downstairs to turn off the light. Make your life easy now and get things automated that way it's another thing that you don’t have to think about again. Trust me, I’ve definitely been there and I have definitely done that.

Mama
