Why I put my Christmas tree up in the beginning of November to bring me Joy and also save me money

So if there’s a big take away that I have post Covid, it was to do things that make me happy. My Christmas tree just makes me happy. I know back in the day it was the norm to wait until after Thanksgiving, however, in a society now where so many of us have fake Christmas trees, why wait? Any store I go to whether it be target, Costco, or just the mall, Christmas goes up after Halloween. When I go to the stores and see all of these Christmas items for sale, I would be tempted to purchase things that I don’t need just because I can’t see the ones that I already have.

So not only just looking at my tree make me happy, it saves me money when I do it in advance. Winning!

Now my girls do give me grief sometimes that it is a bit too early to have Christmas up, but I remind them that in November my Christmas tree is actually a fall tree.

The photo:

I wait until after Thanksgiving to put out anything red. No poinsettias, no red bows, and nothing super Christmasy. Yes, thats a leapord tree skirt, because that is season neutral as well :)

I like to think of my style for November more like a Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn clean cut theme. It’s the twinkling white lights, the neutral tones of coppers, browns and paired with the silver mercury glass is just a winning combination for November.

Not only does putting my tree up early make me happy to look at nightly when the timer flips that tree on  (if you don’t know about my love of timers, well that’s another post in itself) but having the tree up early, my brain gets a task checked off on the to do list has the busy holiday times ramp up.

It seems like November and December are jam packed to where if I can get something off my to do list early, I’m going to do it. This also makes me happy when I get things checked off my to do list that allows me more time to focus on other things as well as just enjoying the season.

The holiday season can get stressful for people, but for me, I learned post Covid to take it all in and make sure you’re enjoying it. I don’t want the extra stress and I want to make sure that putting things that make me happy first takes the stage to getting to enjoy the moments that make this season magical. Taking in all the slow cozy moments are magical too.

The holidays are a time to be merry and bright, and that tree is up in the beginning of November to bring all those cozy feels. It really does just add some happy sparkle to my life. I might’ve been there, and I do know that.

Xo,

Mama
